Day 2 - The Ring of Kerry

Picnic lunch by the lakes

This construction worker was very funny and very friendly. He asked us if we were on "hall-e-day from A-mere-e-cah." He said it very fast and in a very clipped Irish brogue! Don't you love his hat? He even agreed to take his picture with Kim's "Flat Stanley." (Think: 1st grade!)

Hopefully pics will upload with no problem. The Ring of Kerry was the major event today, and it is breathtakingly beautiful. Lakes, mountains, rocky plains, flowers, sheep, boats, and lovely little towns. Benjamin took the majority of the pictures today. He wanted Irby to stop at every beautiful site - and we'd still be there if he had! (We realized some of the best shots are on his camera, and as a camera buff, can I just say how proud I am to have a child who caught the love of picture-taking?) We went around the Ring in the opposite direction that the motor coaches drive, and that is good traffic-wise. However, the road around the Ring is VERY narrow, so besides still feeling very weird being on the left side of the road, we sometimes felt like we were going to get pushed off as we passed those motor coaches going the other direction! Thankfully this is not a high tourist season, and they were not very many! We had a lovely picnic by the lake. We went grocery shopping and bought the usual European crusty bread and some wonderful "red" cheese, plus some fruit, and of course, chocolate. Voila! Lunch! After the Ring, we came to the village of Blarney.
