Day 5 - On to Galway B&B - by way of Ballyvaughn

Ardmor Country House - Spiddal, Ireland
outside of Galway

We had lots of questions about the funny looking tree on
the left. Vera, the proprietress of Ardmor House, told us
it is called "Monkey's Puzzle." This one is about 35 years
old. Its leaves are layered and very detailed.

Monks - Pub and Restaurant - Ballyvaughn, Ireland

On our way to our Galway B&B, we stopped in the fishing village of Ballyvaughn for dinner at Monks Pub & Restaurant. This was Dr. P's suggestion, and it was a good one! We really enjoyed our stop here. Both Ballyvaughn and the Cliffs of Moher are located on the Burren, a vast limestone plateau. Burren is Gaelic for "rocky land."
Admor Country House, is located outside of Galway in the small town of Spiddal (pronounced "Spittal"). We have enjoyed every B&B where we stayed, but we all agree this one is extraordinary. The huge second story patio overlooks Galway Bay, the Burren on the other side of the bay, and the Aran Islands. The gardens are fabulous, and our proprietress, Vera Feeney, has won many awards for her home and hospitality. She serves spectacular breakfasts too! We are glad this is to be our home for two days.
