Daddy's 80th birthday was in April, and many of his cousins got to come to his surprise party. (His cousin, Kent Williams, calls him "our patriarch," because Daddy is now the oldest of something like 22 first cousins.) Anyway, they gave him very sweet cards and wrote the nicest messages to him about things they remembered doing together or things he had done to help them as they were growing up. He treasures those notes and cards! AND the cards contained money for his trip to Ireland!! He commented that he felt like a kid again receiving money on his birthday! Until today, when everyone else was shopping and purchasing, he would only look. For awhile, we thought he might return to the states with all of his money! While at Kylemore, he did like a wonderful navy fisherman's sweater, a beautiful staple clothing item in Ireland. He tried it on and bought it! It is a true remembrance of the Irish way of life and looks great on him too. Thank you, family and friends. (He also bought his Ireland cap.)
