Hellbrun Palace & Journey to Vienna

This was "ADVENTURE DAY."
We began in Salzburg visiting Hellbrun Palace and the acres of parks surrounding it. (First two pictures above.) The archbishop who built Hellbrun was a joker, designing trick fountains for his guests. They put the fountains to good use for the visitors today. The sprays of water were quite refreshing - especially in the heat wave Europe is experiencing the past couple of weeks!! We visited the palace and everyone made it up and down the 35 stairs!
Our journey of about 3 hours to Vienna was going along just fine until we stopped for gas. After filling up (prices are in LITERS - about 37 ounces - they look cheap until you realize that!), but the van wouldn't start after that. After checking out several things, we realized the van was DIESEL, and we had filled up with unleaded! The rental company didn't tell us it was a diesel van, nothing about the van runs like a diesel vehicle (it's quiet, etc.), everyone else around us was filling up with unleaded, but most of all, only a very small and very out of the way sticker indicates to use diesel. There is a number to call for service, which we did. We were towed to the nearby town of Vorchdorf where we waited approx. 2 1/2 hours for them to drain the lines. However, the little town is off the beaten path, shops were open, as well as a quite beautiful cathedral, and a lovely cafe restaurant where we had dinner. All was not lost!
The picture above of the gentleman walking across the bridge was taken while exploring this lovely town. The heat is at an all-time high, but this sweet man is wearing his tradition Bavarian Loden wool coat and hat.
Each evening seems to be ending late, and it takes more time than I realized to upload the pictures to the computer, write the text, then upload to pictures to this site. There are a few new pictures on the pull-down menu today. Whoo-hoo!
Matthew and Jordan leave for Vietnam in the morning. They will travel from Tulsa to Dallas, Dallas to Hong Kong, then on to Ho Chi Mihn City. Please pray for their safe arrival and a blessed two weeks there with the Vietnamese people.
Until later!
